This is often the view I see looking out from the mountain house.  I watch the clouds literally come into the trees and can almost feel the mist that envelopes them.  It is a beautiful, peaceful sight that I wanted to capture on canvas.  Most of the trees were bare except for a few near the ground which made for some color and contrast to the misty clouds.  The view changes often and I plan to paint it again.  As the clouds lift, part of the mountain view comes through creating yet another painting.

This painting was done as a donation to Senior Services of Roswell, Georgia.

I am still in the process of trying to get the best image posted on my website. Sometimes the colors are not true to the actual painting. 

 The colors in this new painting needed to be fairly bright, but at the same time not offensive.  The original painting is much better than the image here. 

One improvement I have made on my site was to change to the new enhanced templates.  I found out about this through the Fine Art Studio Online Forum.  Thanks to Gayle Faucette Wisbon, I was able to change the templates. 

Thanks to FASO for all the help they give to enable artists to show and sell their work. I feel they really care about helping and that make all the difference to me.

What is it about the beautiful human figure that poses problems to the artist? Perhaps some artists find this study of the figure very easy. It seems true when you look at certain artist's work.  When I was fortunate to watch Dan Gerhartz paint with a model, I remember his statements as he painted. He would say "squint down and simplify".  I'm trying to remember those words as I paint, but there is so much more.  I'm still learning technical skills.  Marc Chatov is a wonderful artist and teacher.  I am working with him.  It is hard to measure, mix skin tones, get the correct values and end up with something resembling the model.  I am trying to learn to "see" .  It takes dicipline.   It is a challenge, but that's good for motivation. I'm trained in the medical profession and have studied anatomy, but I need to be reminded about muscle insertion sites etc. etc. Thanks for your time. Hopefully, this painting will improve with more work.

The Callaway Gardens Plein Air Paint Out was such fun.  I enjoyed getting to meet and make new friends and connect with former friends in the art community.  The Callaway staff was wonderful.  The private gardens were amazing.  Dunaway Gardens in Newnan is fantastic.  The reception on Friday night was very enjoyable.  It was exciting as well complete with a storm that had everyone running to the windows to see the hail.

We had excitement in other departments too. Steve Doherty from Plein Air Magazine was at Callaway!!! I got to meet him.  That was great fun!

Greg LaRock participated in the event and stayed on and did a workshop after the event.  He is a great teacher and such a nice person. 

Thanks to all the nice people at Callaway who made this so special. 

Thanks to everyone who purchased our artwork.  We had several sales during the reception and on Saturday and Sunday.

Hi,
With a new year comes renewed focus on what we want to accomplish with whatever it is we do.  I have set new goals for my art this year.  I have made a plan.  I want to focus more on learning, not only technique, but also  to go beyond the technique and capture the feeling and inspiration of the moment and convey that on my canvas. I'm probably going to be continuing on with that at the end of the year and into the new one as well and maybe forever. I want to draw more and work with a live model.  I want to take a portrait workshop.  I want to take classes from other really good artists. I want to balance my time with art, marketing, family and friends and all the other life that I can live.
Making time for what's important.  That includes my spiritual side which is most important of all.  Without that, I could not become anything, much less an artist. Other goals are: enter art contests, get into a new gallery and paint, paint, paint.  I'm off to a good start with this new season.  I have a new gallery, have won second place in a recent show and am taking a portrait workshop in April. I am working once a week with a model. Other workshops are in the planning stage with Bill Davidson and Greg LaRock.  I am blessed.
